Faculty earn UF/IFAS research awards

GAINESVILLE, Fla. --- Multiple department faculty members from the food and resource economics department earned UF/IFAS research awards recognizing their research accomplishments.

Hayk Khachatryan

University Term Professorship Award

Dr. Khachatryan is an assistant professor in the food and resource economics department at the Mid-Florida Research and Education Center located in Apopka, Florida.  His research interests include consumer behavior, experimental economics, pro-environmental behavior, temporal preferences, and urban and environmental policy.  The University Term Professorship Award recognizes recent research contributions and provides incentives for continued excellence with a 3-year annual salary supplement.  Dr. Khachatryan earned one of 250 awards given annually to faculty members from across the university.

Jaclyn Kropp & Kelly Grogan

High Impact Publication Award

Dr. Jaclyn Kropp is an assistant professor in the food and resource economics department with research focusing on issues related to agricultural policy and finance.  Dr. Kelly Grogan is an assistant professor in the food and resource economics department with research interests in economic modeling and natural resource economics.  They received the High Impact Publication Award for their contributions to an article published in the Journal of Economic Psychology about the effects of pre-ordering and "nudges" on elementary school children when making school lunch choices.

Zhifeng Gao

University Term Professorship Award

Dr. Gao is an associate professor in the food and resource economics department with research interests understanding consumer attitudes and preferences for food products.  Dr. Gao's research provides critical information for the food industry and is used to develop policies that encourage the availability of high-quality food products to consumers.  The University Term Professorship Award recognizes recent research contributions and provides incentives for continued excellence with a 3-year annual salary supplement.  Dr. Gao earned one of 250 awards given annually to faculty members from across the university.

Lisa House

University of Florida Research Foundation Professorship Award

Dr. House is the director of the Florida Agricultural Market Researcher Center and professor in the food and resource economics department.  Dr. House's research focuses on consumer preferences and demand for food products.  she had received grants totaling over $2.5 million to research subjects such as consumer acceptance of genetically modified foods, demand for seafood products, the perception of fruits and vegetables, and the role of social networks in new food product adoption.  The University of Florida Research Foundation Professorship is awarded to tenured faculty members in at the University of Florida who have a distinguished current record of research.  Dr. House received one of 34 awards granted to faculty across the University.
