Assistant Professor

Dr. Olesya Savchenko is an Assistant Professor of Agricultural Economics and Policy in the Food and Resource Economics Department at the University of Florida. She earned her Ph.D. in applied economics from the University of Illinois and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Delaware’s Center for Experimental and Applied Economics. Dr. Savchenko is affiliated with the UF Water Institute, the UF Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants, and is a fellow at the Center for Behavioral and Experimental Agri-Environmental Research, a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Center of Excellence.

Dr. Savchenko’s research uses experimental economics methods and non-market valuation techniques to quantify the impact of human behavioral changes on natural systems and to evaluate and inform agri-environmental policies. She is particularly interested in studying policy-relevant issues related to the management of water resources and the adoption of pro-environmental behavior. Dr. Savchenko’s most recent work explores household adoption of water quality best management practices, evaluates public perceptions of aquatic invasive species management, quantifies the economic impacts of harmful algal blooms, and studies consumers’ willingness to adopt sustainable food choices. Papers emerging from her research have been published in American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Land Economics, Food Policy, Applied Economics Teaching Resources, and other scholarly journals. She is currently co-leading the Northeastern Agricultural and Resource Economics Association (NAREA) Scholars’ Circle in Environmental Economics and serving on the editorial boards of the Agricultural and Resource Economics Review and the Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics. Dr. Savchenko teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in environmental economics and policy (AEB6933), international trade policy in agriculture (AEB4242), and strategic agribusiness management (AEB 6385).
