Malek Hammami
Assistant Professor
Dr. A. Malek Hammami is an Assistant Professor in the Food and Resource Economics Department, with joint appointments in Extension and Research, located at the University of Florida's Tropical Research and Education Center (TREC) in Homestead. He earned his Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, specializing in Agricultural Trade, Production and Development Economics, and Industrial Organization. He then completed his postdoctoral research at the University of Florida’s Gulf Coast Research and Education Center, where he focused on agribusiness topics such as the production and trade of fruits and vegetables.
His research interests include Food Market Economics, the Trade and Marketing of Agricultural Products, and Agricultural Policy. He is developing an integrated research and extension education program to address production and marketing challenges faced by South Florida's vegetable, fruit, ornamental and agronomic crop industries. Additionally, he aims to assist stakeholders identify market opportunities and conduct non-market valuations of ecosystem goods and services relevant to South Florida.

Research
His research program centers on the production and marketing of fruits, vegetables, and ornamental crops, as well as the non-market valuation of goods and services, with the goal of assessing and promoting the economic efficiency and environmental sustainability of agricultural systems.

Extension
His extension and outreach program is dedicated to addressing the pressing agribusiness challenges faced by South Florida Agri-Food industries. This includes guiding stakeholders in identifying and capitalizing on new market opportunities, optimizing farm budgets for fruit, vegetable, and ornamental crops, and delivering comprehensive economic assessments of emerging technologies, the impacts of pathogens, and evolving policy frameworks.
