In addition to production, the food system also includes operations involved in transforming livestock and agricultural products into food and kindred products.

What is Food and Kindred Products Manufacturing?

Operations involved in transforming livestock and agricultural products into products for intermediate or final consumption, which includes grain and oilseed milling, sugar and confectionery product manufacturing, fruit, and vegetable preserving, dairy product manufacturing, animal slaughtering and processing, seafood product preparation and packaging, bakeries and tortilla manufacturing, animal food manufacturing, and beverage and tobacco product manufacturing.

 

The food and kindred products manufactured in these establishments are typically sold to wholesalers or retailers for distribution to consumers.
